The community of life
The idea of the community of life invites us to reconsider our place in the world. We belong to life that has evolved through countless relationships and is continually coming into being. The air we breathe, the water we drink and the nourishment that becomes part of our bodies remind us that these connections run through us, too. Nature makes our existence possible and is part of who we are.
These relationships surround us in everyday life, even when we do not notice them. A tree in the neighbourhood shelters other living beings and changes the surroundings of those who pass by. Our homes, workplaces and communities are woven into these relationships. How we organise our lives, what we consider valuable and the habits we cultivate affect life itself.
In HomeBeing, the community of life is an idea to think with and find ourselves within. It can awaken wonder at how much we belong to and draw our attention to what we otherwise take for granted. What might change in our values, our design and our daily actions if we were more aware of this? How can we create a good life for ourselves while caring for the life that makes it possible?
